Inspiring story of a man born with upside down head
Claudio Vieira de Oliveira The 37-year-old man from Monte Santo, Brazil, Born with arthrogryposis has his neck folded back on itself, his legs are badly deformed and he can hardly use his hands. As the baby came to this world, was so deformed when he was born, that doctors told his mother she should starve him to death.
Thankfully, his mother ignored those insane doctors and began to raise Claudio with love and care. The Brazilian man was born with arthrogryposis, which caused his head upside-down and the rest of his limbs to be extremely deformed.
But although his joints are fused together, Claudio has thrived in life, learning to do things without the help of others. He types on a computer using a pen in his mouth, and uses his lips to dial a phone and move the computer mouse!
He has attended the university at State University of Feira de Santana and became an accountant. Not to mention he’s published his first BOOK titled ‘El Mundo Esta A Contramano’ (The World Is The Wrong Way Around). He’s now been offered to travel the world and speak in public.
He said: “Since I was a child I’ve always liked to keep myself busy and work – I don’t like to depend totally on other people.
“I do a bit of accounting, research for clients and consulting.
“I have learned to turn on the TV, pick up my cell phone, turn on the radio, use the internet, my computer – I do it all by myself.”
Claudio had always wanted to be independent and begged his mother from a young age to let him go to school – despite not being able to use a wheelchair because of his unusual shape.
Throughout my life I was able to adapt my body to the world. Right now, I don’t see myself as being different. I am a normal person. I don’t see things upside-down. This is one of the things I always talk about in my interventions as a public speaker.
“Nowadays it’s much easier to deal with the public, I’m not afraid of it any more and I can say that I am a professional, international public speaker and that I receive invitations from all over the world.”
